The founder of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom has charged President John Evans Atta Mills to back his commitment to ensuring a peaceful election in December with action.
He said President Mills should not hesitate to crack the whip on his appointees who go on insulting-spree to provoke their political opponents to react in a manner which would disturb the peace of the country.
Dr. Nduom's comment follows President Mills’ insistence that he was dedicated to ensuring peace before, during and after this year’s election at the 55th Independence Day anniversary celebration.
President Mills said ensuring peace is not a preserve for government and called on all Ghanaians to commit to peace ahead of the December general election.
However, on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom underscored the need for President Mills to walk the talk by taking proactive measures to ensure peace even if he (Mills) has to sack some government appointees.
He noted that President Mills must ensure sanity at the presidency and among his spokesperson to avert any violence in the country.
Dr. Nduom added the peace and security of the country must not be compromised in anyway and a mere call for peace from the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (Mills) was not enough.
The PPP leader also called on all political parties lacing their boots for the electioneering campaign to embark on a clean campaign devoid of insults and provocation of other political opponents.
Dr. Nduom urged the Mills-led government not to abuse incumbency by using state funds for its campaign but provide a level playing field for all parties to ensure a violence-free elections in December.
