The Supreme Court has fixed July 12, 2016 to hear contempt charges against a Montie FM host as well as two guests who threatened the lives of judges recently.
A formal summons by the Supreme Court says Salifu Maase alias Mugabe, the host, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson must appear before it on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
The Court wants them to appear before it by the morning of the stated date to show cause why they should not be imprisoned for contempt for “scandalizing the court, defying and lowering the authority of the court and bringing the authority of the court into disrepute.”
Two panelists on a pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) local language radio station vowed to deal with the judges whom they deemed to be unduly entertaining the opposition politicians challenging the validity the of the electoral roll.
An audio recording of their comments has since gone viral on social media.
Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn said the judges would be eliminated before they create chaos in the country. Mr Gunn has denied making the comments but his denial has been dismissed by persons who say they have proof he threatened the lives of the judges.
The comments have attracted wide public condemnation and criticism.
Management of the radio station has apologised for the comments and says it dissociates itself from the unruly comments.
Salifu Maase, aka Mugabe, is being accused of allowing the two political pundits to go ahead with their contemptuous comments uninterrupted.
The comments were made on June 29, 2016, the eve of the Martyrs Day, a day that commemorates the kidnap and murder of three high court judges in 1982.
