President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has called on the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to make special considerations for Ghanaian clubs who qualify for CAF-organised competitions.
Clubs that get to represent the country in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup have raised funds through their own means to honour their participation.
However, Okraku believes it's high time the government made a conscious effort to take some financial burden off the clubs.
"We also call on the government to establish a dedicated national support fund for clubs representing Ghana in the CAF-organised competitions such as the Champions League and the Confederation Cup," he said during the GFA's 31st Ordinary Congress.
"These clubs carry the national flag and indeed need logistical, financial and institutional support to succeed on the African continent."
Bibiani GoldStars and Asante Kotoko are set to represent Ghana in the two competitions, respectively, having won the Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup trophies last season, while Police Ladies, who won the Malta Guinness Women's Premier League, will play in the WAFU B Women's Champions League Qualifiers.
