President of the Institute of Directors-Ghana, Rockson K. Dogbegah, has highlighted the relevance of ethical leadership in promoting good Corporate Governance as well as national development.
Speaking at the media launch of the 4th IoD-Gh Directors' week celebration, on Monday, November 8, 2021, he asserted that any leadership strategy without ethical clarity, produces moral and economic bankruptcy which in effect affects the efficiency of businesses.
He further mentioned that in a world where diversity, equity, and inclusion make for good business, ethical leadership cannot be any less important as these moral concepts fall and rise on leadership.
"It is without a doubt that the youth are hungry for change and seek a kind of leadership that will deliver development. It appears people are willing to do anything to hold onto the hope for that leadership that promises the change. Within this context, I could not have found a better subject to discuss than Ethical and Effective Leadership as we launch the 4th IoD-Gh Directors’ Week Celebration today," he said.
In addition, he noted that the basis of ethical leadership, thus, suggests that the leader has a personal desire to be ethical and to model ethical standards in ways that are visible for other individuals in the organization to see and emulate.
"Ethical leadership suggests the leader possesses strong personal character; has a passion to do the right thing; has high value for the diverse interests that exist within their group; models the values of the group they lead; and creates a leadership atmosphere within which transparency and a critique of all actions, including that of leadership, become major features.
It also "impacts company culture and positively affects an organization’s external reputation. Effective business leaders prioritize employees’ needs by encouraging them to constructively convey their opinions and concerns," he added.
The Annual Directors’ Week Celebration is an event that brings Directors in the Public and Private sector space, and members of the Institute together to build their capacity, network, and share ideas on how to promote professional directorship and good corporate governance in their respective areas of influence.
The event will come off from November 16 to 19, 2021, and will be held virtually.
This year’s celebration, which promises to be very exciting will kick-off with a Strategic Stakeholder Engagement to discuss issues around “Good Corporate Governance and Ethical Leadership in Promoting Ghana Beyond Aid.”
This will explore opportunities for members to examine their governance structures and assess their degree of preparedness to dealing with recovery, turnaround, and promoting Ghana Beyond Aid.
Strategic capacity development sessions will also be organized to equip Directors with tools to manage turnaround with the potential to help rebuild their organizations post Covid-19 pandemic. Opportunities will further, be created for members to interact with the leadership to discuss various strategic issues relating to the Institute.
The weeklong celebration will be crowned with an Awards Ceremony to recognize Individuals and Corporates who have distinguished themselves in the promotion of Good Corporate Governance.
