Coming off the immeasurable excitement, fun, joy, thrills and spills generated by Joy Sports on Multi- TV’s unparalleled coverage of football’s biggest match-the El-Clasico from the Accra Mall, attention now inevitably switches to the equally exciting and often discredited Europa League.
This year’s Europa League, the first of its kind, just got better, following the entry of English giants Liverpool into the knock out stages.
Add to that the presence of traditional European powerhouses-Valencia, Ajax of Amsterdam, AS Roma, Galatasaray, Panathanaikos, Lazio and PSV all battling for glory, come the final in the Hamburg Arena on 12 May 2010, suddenly renders UEFA’s newest competition a must watch!
Last season's UEFA Cup finalists, FC Shakhtar Donetsk and Werder Bremen, ensured their place in the knockout phase on Matchday 4, along with Galatasaray AŞ. A draw this week will see AFC Ajax, RSC Anderlecht, Sporting Clube de Portugal, Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC, SL Benfica, Panathinaikos FC, FC Salzburg and Athletic Club join them.
The draws for the round of 32 and round of 16 will be held in Nyon on 18 December at 11.00GMT. The 12 UEFA Europa League group winners and the four best third-ranked teams in the UEFA Champions League group stage will be drawn against the 12 UEFA Europa League group runners-up and the remaining third-ranked teams in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
