Everton manager Roberto Martinez sent an emissary to watch Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris on Saturday night when he scored two goals for his French Ligue 1 side Valenciennes.
The 22-year-old has been a subject of transfer speculations after blossoming in the French top-flight on loan from Spartak Moscow.
Waris has scored eight goals in 11 matches and has attracted the Toffees who are keen on finding a replacement for Romelu Lukaku who is on loan from Chelsea.
The youngster’s contract with his Russian employers runs until June 2017.
According to reports in France, scouts of Werder Bremen and Ajax Amsterdam were also in the stands of the Stade du Hainaut.
This is a ring of endorsement for the former Swedish top-flight league goal king ahead of the 2014 World Cup finals.
Waris is receiving rave reviews across Europe (described as a secret weapon) and will be a key player for Ghana in Brazil.
