A Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) survey says 61 per cent of Ghanaians think the Ghanaian government is doing badly in narrowing income gaps; 54 per cent continue to hold the view that government's economic policies have hurt most people, a decline from the 2005 figure of 67 per cent; majority of respondents in Ashanti (57%) and Eastern (52%) believe macroeconomic conditions are fairly good but only 18% in Volta think so.These statements are part of the findings of the COD-Ghana's March 2008 Afrobarometer Survey on the economic conditions in Ghana. The Afrobarometer, the fourth, also stated that the experience of poverty has broadly declined since 2002.For example, in 2002 whilst 40% of Ghanaians said they had gone without food, that percentage declined to 31% in 2008. It quoted the Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS, 2006) as having reported a decline in extreme poverty level from 37% in 1991 to 19% in 2006.
