The Fair Wages & salaries commission has welcomed suspension of the month-long strike by the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).

According to the Public Relations Officer at the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Earl Ankra, the suspension will allow TEWU members to go back to follow laid down procedure.

"Fair Wages welcome the call for TEWU to call off the strike and allow the process and procedures to continue", Earl Ankra intimated.

He further pointed out that the Fair Wages and salaries commission is awaiting conclusions of the two committees set up by the vice chancellors of the universities to look into the concerns of TEWU members.

This follows TEWU's suspension of their month-long strike to demand for unpaid allowances.

Their strike led to the hang up of office work and cleaning jobs in various universities around the country.

TEWU president, Peter Lumor told Joy News that the suspension of their action was as a result of moves by vice chancellors of the various public universities to resolve their concerns.

According to him, the vice chancellors understood the issues raised by TEWU as they are confident that their concerns will be resolved.

"We have suspended the strike for now. At least because of the engagements we have had with our vice chancellors and heads of TEWU and appeal unto TEWU to reconsider its action based on those factors", Peter Lumor indicated.
