The Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Kwabena Amankwa Asiama, has pleaded with the warring factions in the brewing Ga Chieftaincy dispute to resort to negotiations for a peaceful solution to the crisis in order to avert bloodshed.
King Tackie Tawia III, has since his entoolment as Ga Mantse, encountered stiff opposition from some members of the royal family who have over the years challenged his legitimacy to the throne. The case is still in court.
On Sunday, a new Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Adama Latse II was installed as promised by the Gbese Mantse during the lifting of the ban on drumming and noise-making in Accra.
The Palace of the Ga Mantse was taken over by the new king and his supporters Monday morning; however the act has been described as a coup plot by the spokesperson of King Tackie Tawiah.
The Fanteakwa MP, contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s current affairs programme Kokrokoo Monday, called for calm on both sides, recalling that such incidents had in the past cost the nation numerous lives.
He insisted that there was no problem that could not be solved if the contending parties were both willing to see it resolved.
Mr Amankwa Asiama stated that since the issue was still in court, those who installed the new king should have waited for the court to conclude its process or they should first have sought clearance from the court before enstooling another person.
He stated that Ghanaians were noted worldwide for jealously preserving their culture and therefore cautioned stakeholders of the chieftaincy institutions to ensure that the current situation does not divide the Gas just as it had happened in other parts of the country.
