A 38-year-old farmer, Kofi Ackah has committed suicide after slashing his wife several times with a machete.He drank Confidor, a chemical used for spaying cocoa trees and died afterwards in a cocoa farm near Wassa Mampong in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western Region.The Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raymond Erzuah confirmed the tragic incident to the Ghana News Agency on Friday.He said a quarel ensued between Ackah and his wife Victoria Quaicoe, on December 20, 2012 around 1630 hours.The police said during the hot exchanges between them, Ackah picked a machete and slashed the fore-head, arm and back of his wife several times with blood oozing profusely.The wife shouted for help which attracted the attention of their neighbours and Ackah, thinking he had killed the wife bolted into a nearby forest.The victim was sent to the Wassa Mampong Polyclinic for treatment.The next day, a search team made up of the police and some members of the community found the corpse of Ackah in a cocoa farm with an empty Confidor bottle and a machete lying beside him.The corpse has been deposited at the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy, whiles police investigations continue.
