FAZ it did nothing inappropriate in clearing 8 Zambian players convicted for match fixing in Finland to play in the Super Division. The FIFA disciplinary committee has summoned FAZ to explain how it cleared the players without international clearance from the Finnish FA. FAZ general secretary George Kasengele said they have cooperated fully with FIFA and are confident they will be cleared of any wrong doing by Zurich. "The truth of the matter is that we were approached by five Zambian clubs to register some of these players from Finland," Kasengele said. "But before we could do that we wrote to the Finnish FA requesting to what the status was on with the seven players; we didn’t get a reply. "The player themselves came to see me requesting to be registered I refused and we followed it up with Finnish FA again which up to this day have not responded." Kasengele said FAZ later learnt the Finnish FA had instead written to FIFA requesting the players suspension for match fixing be Worldwide. "So on the 7th May last year FIFA wrote to us informing us that the seven players had been suspended from playing anywhere in the World," Kasengele said. "So immediately that was done, because in April last year we had given them [players] a temporal status and some of them played one or two games in our league because FIFA says if you write requesting for an ITC and you don’t get a response from the other side then you can give temporal registration and until the matter can be formalised in due cause.It was on the basis that we gave permission to the players." The players who were cleared are strikers Nchimunya Mweetwa and Christopher Musonda of Napsa Stars who played only one game. The other was midfielder Donewell Yobe who featured for National Assembly FC and scored two goals in four games he played. Kasengele said the clubs were later alerted of the player bans and correspondence from FIFA sent to the respective teams to comply with the directive.
