The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects for alleged human trafficking and cyber-enabled criminal activities following an intelligence-led operation at Kwabenya in Accra.

The operation, conducted on July 12, 2026, involved personnel from the Cybercrime Unit, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and the CID Headquarters Operations Unit.

The Director-General of the CID, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, said this at a press briefing on Wednesday, July 21, 2026, where she gave updates on four major operations involving cyber-enabled fraud, human trafficking and illicit firearms trafficking.

The suspects have been identified as Chigozi Azubuike, 35; Edwin Onyema, 24; Kingsley Nwanchukwu, 29; Henry Ebuke, 32; and Harrison Godwin, 26.

The Police say the operation led to the recovery of 52 assorted mobile phones and several wireless internet devices suspected to have been used in the commission of cybercrime-related offences.

According to preliminary intelligence received on July 11, a group of young Nigerians had allegedly been trafficked into Ghana and confined at a residential property in Kwabena, where they were reportedly being forced to engage in cybercrime activities.

Police officers dispatched to the location searched a three-bedroom apartment, where one locked room raised suspicion.

The Police say one of the suspects, Chigozi Azubuike, claimed the room belonged to his elder brother who was away, but officers found the explanation suspicious and gained access to the room.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that 18 young Nigerians, aged between 15 and 24, were victims of alleged human trafficking in Nigeria.

The victims are said to have been instructed by Chigozi Azubuike to identify themselves as a group and conceal information from the Police.

The 18 victims have since been rescued and placed at a safe location under the care of the appropriate authorities.

The five suspects were arraigned before Circuit Court 7 on July 16, 2026, and have been remanded into Police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
