Food and Drugs Authority has caused the arrest of some residents of Teshie who scavenged on unwholesome chicken disposed off by some unidentified persons.A statement issued in Accra is admonishing "the general public especially those living within the Teshie environ to be extra cautious by way of ensuring that they purchase chicken products from trustworthy sources and not from itinerant traders."Read the full statement below.PRESS RELEASE
UNWHOLESOME CHICKEN PARTSThe Food and Drugs Authority, upon a tip off, found a consignment of unwholesome chicken parts dumped at a refuse dumping site at Teshie, a suburb of Accra.Investigation conducted by the FDA revealed that some residents of nearby houses had taken into possession part of the consignment.To ensure that this consignment of unwholesome chicken parts do not find its way onto the market, the FDA with the assistance of the Teshie Police conducted a search and confiscated all such products for subsequent safe disposal.Meanwhile those residents have been handed over to the police for investigation to be conducted so as to identify the source of the consignment of unwholesome chicken parts.The FDA will like to advise the general public especially those living within the Teshie environ to be extra cautious by way of ensuring that they purchase chicken products from trustworthy sources and not from itinerant traders, as the consumption of such products can lead to serious health problems.The FDA will appreciate any information from the general public which will help in the investigation leading to the arrest of those who dumped the unwholesome chicken parts at the said dumping site.Furthermore, the Food and Drugs Authority wishes to assure the public that it will continue to do all in its power to protect public health and safety.Meanwhile, the FDA will like to extend its appreciation to all media houses for their support, especially to Peace FM, who gave the information leading to this current issue under investigation.Moreover, information from the general public on persons suspected to be in any practice with the potential of endangering public health and safety with respect to FDA’s mandate is most welcomed through any of the following contact numbers: 0244337235,0244337243 or 0244337247John Odame-Darkwah
