Teshie Gonno School came alive with hope and inspiration on Saturday, November 16, 2024, as Football Impact Africa, the organization behind the prestigious Ghana Football Awards, hosted the Ghetto Love Initiative: Teshie Edition.
This transformative event showcased the power of football as a force for unity, education, and positive change.
The Ghetto Love Initiative, one of Football Impact Africa’s flagship programme, aims to uplift communities in Ghana’s urban slums by addressing critical social issues through sports.
In Teshie, the initiative tackled one of the most pressing concerns affecting youth today: substance abuse.

The event featured a workshop organized in collaboration with the National Anti-Doping Committee, Ghana (NADCGh), focusing on the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
Dozens of young footballers attended, eager to learn how to stay disciplined and drug-free while pursuing their dreams of professional football.
Through personal testimonies, expert presentations, and interactive Q&A sessions, participants gained a
deeper understanding of the devastating impact of substance abuse on their health, careers, and communities.

One participant remarked, “Hearing these stories made me realize that staying clean is not just a choice,
but a necessity for my dreams of becoming a professional footballer.”
The event’s impact extended beyond the football pitch with free health screenings provided by Grace Gift Herbal Clinic.
Community members of all ages received checks for malaria, high blood pressure, typhoid, and general wellness. This holistic approach emphasized the organizers’ commitment to building healthy, resilient communities.

The highlight of the day was a thrilling football tournament featuring eight dynamic teams, including
Books for Boots Academy, EAAK, Shinning Babies, Enter Street Football Club, Sambo 4, Turning Point
Soccer Academy, Kingdom FC and Vasajam Football Academy.
The games were filled with passion and talent, culminating in a nail-biting final between Shinning Babies and Sambo 4.
Shinning Babies clinched the championship, with standout players like Evans Kwei (Best Goalkeeper) and
Leslie Ashitey (Best Player) earning well-deserved accolades.
Key stakeholders lauded the initiative for its far-reaching impact. Prince Emekor Azanu, Officer in
Charge of NADCGh commended the workshop for addressing urgent issues.

“This event brought attention to substances we hadn’t even heard of before. If even a handful of these young people take the message to heart, we’ve made a difference.”
Felix Romark, a Board Member of the Ghana Football Awards, emphasized the broader significance.
“This wasn’t just about football; it was about empowering young people to make responsible life choices.”
The Ghetto Love Initiative: Teshie Edition was a resounding success, leaving the community inspired and
hopeful. Football Impact Africa is already planning the next edition, aiming to replicate and expand its
impact across Ghana.
With the support of sponsors like the Ministry of Youth and Sports, NADCGh, and GraceGift Herbal Clinic,
this initiative continues to prove that teamwork, passion, and dedication can change lives—one goal at a
time.
