A Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed some District Chief Executives under the previous government executed projects only on paper.
He said while the DCEs left huge debts to be paid for projects they undertook, there were no physical evidence of some of the projects supposedly undertaken.
Mr Ablakwa told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show hosted by Evans Mensah on Monday that the president’s directive for all district, metropolitan and municipal assemblies to be probed was to ensure that monies are not just paid to people for doing nothing.
To back his claims, the Deputy Information Minister cited Tain where a school was supposed to have been built but which could not be located.
He said some of the assemblies were saddled with such huge debts that if they were to pay all, they will spend all their common fund allocation for the four years that they will be in office to service the debts.
Mr Okudzeto Ablakwa stated that if the investigations asked for by the president are complete, companies or individuals who have unjustifiably being demanding payments for no job done will not be paid.
He said the debts were so staggering the government could not just pay.
