Failed New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary hopeful for the Adentan constituency in Accra, Frances Essiam, has endorsed the candidature of Kwabena Agyei Agyepong for the General Secretary position of the party.
She said the party needs a "strategic thinker", who will help NPP unseat the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections.
“We need a strategic, people centered General Secretary, who will bring dignity to bear on the office”, she told Accra based radio station, CitiFM.
Apart from Mr. Agyepong, the incumbent Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka Sir John, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah and Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey (rtd.) are all vying for the position.
All of them including incumbent, Sir John, who is embarking on a submarine campaign, are confident of becoming the General Secretary at the upcoming delegate's congress in Tamale on April 12, 2014.
But Frances Essiam stated unequivocally that out of the four candidates contesting the position, Kwabena Agyepong is best for the party.
According to her, the NPP needs the maturity and the calmness that come with the position and not a General Secretary, who will jump into the fray at any given opportunity.
“Kwabena Agyepong to me is the millennium General Secretary, who will carry the party forward in 2016”, Frances Essiam stressed.
