New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has asked Ghanaians to repose their trust in the party’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the December polls as the surest way of guaranteeing the future of the Free Senior High School policy.
He recounted the importance of education to individuals and society in general using his personal experience as an example, noting that, but for education, he would have been nothing.
According to him, some of his former classmates who could not further their education because of financial difficulties are struggling to make ends meet.
The Assin North legislator and renowned business mogul made these remarks on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, when he joined the NPP vice Presidential Candidate, Hon. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to address Lapaz traders and market women at the Presby Church-Nii Boiman, in the Okaikwei North Constituency as part of their constituency-focused campaign tours of the Greater Accra Region.
Hon. Kennedy Agyapong reminded Ghanaians of the longstanding position of the NDC and their presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama against the Free SHS policy, and said emphatically that the policy would not be safe under a John Mahama presidency.
“A political party [NDC] that vigorously campaigned against Free SHS can certainly not be trusted with the future of the policy. The surest way of protecting Free SHS is for Ghanaians to vote for H.E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP in the December polls”, he noted.
On his part, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh added his voice to the call by Hon. Ken Agyapong for Ghanaians not to vote for the NDC. He said that the NDC and their presidential candidate, John Mahama, sponsored over 47 adverts against Free SHS, and that, John Mahama is on record to have said that if he had GHc2 billion, he wouldn’t waste that amount on Free SHS.
Dr Prempeh also highlighted some of the interventions of the government to reduce the cost of living and assured the traders that the next government under President Mahamudu Bawumia would implement more business-friendly programmes to further reduce the cost of doing business and improve their livelihoods.
He concluded his remarks by appealing to the traders to vote massively for Dr Bawumia and the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah, to become the next Member of Parliament for the good of Okaikwei Constituency.
