The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has indicated its readiness to review the conditions of service of personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service.
This is a direct reaction to complaints by personnel of the Service who have described their conditions of service as 'pathetic'.
According to them, the salary they receive at the end of the month is the lowest compared to their colleagues in the other security agencies in the country.
They argued this has had some serious impact on their pension and their lives.
However, meeting the authorities of the Service over the weekend, Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Haruna Iddrisu assured them the government is considering the review of their conditions of service.
He encouraged them to nonetheless go about their work in a manner that is deserving for the welfare of inmates.
Commenting on the issue on Joy News, Chief Executive Director of the Commission, George Smith Graham was confident the shortcomings with regards to the conditions of service of Prisons Service personnel would be resolved.
He asserted the Commission has for the past months, been reviewing the conditions of service of personnel in the health sector and would do so for the Prisons Service.
He, however, pointed out the Commission will act after the Prisons Service Council has presented a proposal for the issue to be reconsidered.
“If the Prisons Service Council after its assessment of the situation wants to make any proposal, they can submit to the Commission for consideration,” he said.
