Management of the Ghana Commercial Bank has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with its workers over deductions made from their salaries.
The workers on Wednesday picketed at the bank’s head office in protest against the 25 percent deduction from their consolidated allowances amidst a threat to embark on a strike.
According to a statement released by the bank, management has decided to reverse the deductions as a cash advance that will be paid back by the workers once negotiations on their collective bargaining agreement is finalized with the union.
Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations Samuel Sarpong explains to Joy Business, the decision is a gesture from management.
He however maintains the tax deductions are in accordance with the law.
The Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers say they welcome the temporary agreement reached with management even though with reservations.
Francis Davoh, General Secretary of UNICOF said what management has done is to ease tension for now but complained the problem still remains.
He hoped management will take steps to resolve the matter comprehensively.
