Leading cement manufacturer, Ghacem Limited, has paid glowing tribute to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for the dynamism discipline and prudence it attaches to its work and undertakings.
Ghacem particularly praised the leadership of GAF for their judicious use of cement bags which was donated to them recently.
The donation by Ghacem was towards the construction of a mess for the GAF Engineering Training School at Teshie in Accra.
According to Ghacem Acting Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Solomon Ayiah, Ghacem was “profoundly impressed with the way the project has been completed, which underscores the discipline and seriousness of the Ghana military.”
Mr. Ayiah made the remark at the opening of the mess in Accra on Friday, which also coincided with the closing of the second quarter courses for some officers of the school.
“We are here to share the moment and witness the opening ceremony of a project that holds immense benefit to GAF and the entire nation,” he said, adding: “We are proud to be associated with such a project.”
Mr. Ayiah explained that as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Ghacem was ever ready to contribute cement towards projects of national interest, after proper request and monitoring procedures had been followed.
“We do this because often, through monitoring, we’re able to identify situations and projects that need more cement than had been requested,” he said, indicating that development of the nation was the focus of the Ghacem Cement Foundation.
The Commanding Officer of the Engineering Training School, Lt. Col. Jonas Wiafe, explained that as a self-help initiative, the GAF mess project started years ago with scarce resources.
“But with donations by corporate bodies like Ghacem, we have completed it and now have a decent place for personnel of the GAF to dine,” he said, touting the cement manufacturer's support as an example of a useful civil-military relationship.
