Highlife artiste Akosua Agyapong, says the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) is capable of handling its affairs without the intervention of government.
According to her, all the institution has to do is be accountable to its members and transparent in handling affairs that affect the organisation.
She advised that the leaders of GHAMRO could begin by being open and fair about matters relating to finances and insurance.
The 'Frema' hitmaker in an interview with Hitz FM’s Noella Kharyne Yalley, said, “We can see the money that government gives us, and we all know that hotels, restaurants, TV and radio stations, spinners, Google gives us dollars, Vodafone et cetera give us money.
"The question then is, why do people get ¢50-60 after 6 months as royalty? I mean it’s pathetic! We just want transparency.”
Akosua Agyapong added that it is insufficient for the institution to only announce to their members the amount of money to be shared, especially when members are worth more.
“And so the problem is not from government, because they serve their bit.
The issue is, where is our money?”
“The leaders are expected to receive funds and share them to members, and it is fair for us to know the amount that's being shared" she emphasised.
