The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences has inducted new fellows with a call on them to share their knowledge to achieve the collective vision of the Academy.
The inductees were drawn from various academic disciplines to participate in national discourse for sustained development.
They are Professor of Poultry Science, Mr Samuel Egyir Aggrey; Professor of Surgery, Dr Joe-Nat Afutu Clegg-Lamptey; Professor of Population Studies, Dr Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe; and Professor of Chemistry, Dr Godfred Darko.
The rest are Professor of Pharmacology, Dr Emmanuel Bekoe Larbi; Professor of Animal Science, Mr Frederick Yeboah Obese; and Professor of Food Science and Technology, Dr Ibok Ekpenyong Nsa Oduro.
Professor Kofi Opoku Nti, President of the Academy, charged the inductees to bring new ideas to the Academy to chart the path to national growth.
“We expect you to participate fully in the affairs of the Academy. You need to volunteer time to the cause of the Academy and adhere to its core values,” he said.
Prof Nti stressed that the Academy strived when they volunteered to serve, urging them to exhibit their leadership skills to bring the needed outcomes.
He urged them to be committed to national issues and participate in debates of national interest in addressing challenges.
The President urged the inductees to be cautious of the use of social media space to avoid misinformation or disinformation ahead of the general elections.
“You need to collaborate with others to work to solve problems that can transform the country’s development trajectory,” he said.
Prof.Oduro, on behalf of the inductees, thanked the leadership of the Academy for the honour and pledged to work collectively for the growth of the Academy.
“We have come and are ready to be committed to the progress of the Academy. We will volunteer and ensure the success of the Academy’s activities,” he said.
