The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, has pledged that the Ghana Armed Forces would work hard to bring sustainable peace and security to the Bawku area. He said with the establishment of permanent presence of security personnel in the area, soldiers would closely monitor the situation and respond swiftly to any threat to life and property. Lt-Gen Blay was in Kumasi as part of a two-day working tour of the Northern Command, to acquaint himself with the operational challenges of the various Military Units. He said any move to disturb peace initiative for the area would be stopped. Lt-Gen Blay has inspected the transit quarters of the Four Battalion of Infantry, the French Language Centre, Complex Barracks, Affiliate Units and the Old Barracks in Kumasi. He was conducted round by Brigadier General C.K Ocran, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command and Major S.W.K. Pardey, Commanding Officer of the 4BN. Lt-Gen Blay also held closed door meeting with the Unit Commanders. Later in a media briefing, Lieutenant Andy La-Anyane, a Public Relations Officer, said the CDS was happy with the level of discipline and professionalism of the officers and men of the Command. Lt Gen Blay, he said, promised to ensure that problems facing the Command are addressed. The CDS is expected to pay courtesy calls on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, the Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku Manu and the Chief Executive of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on Thursday before continuing to Sunyani.
