Deputy Director-General at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Prof Dickson Adomako has called for action in the battle against breast cancer.
Prof. Adomako stressed the critical need for a united effort to combat this devastating disease, emphasizing that it is the sole path to achieving a future free from the scourge of breast cancer.
Ghana faces a distressing situation where a significant number of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, primarily due to insufficient awareness, education, and misconceptions surrounding the disease.

Healthcare professionals acknowledge that this late diagnosis makes successful treatment, especially for advanced tumors, exceedingly challenging.
Ghana records an annual count of over 4,000 women grappling with breast cancer, with nearly half of them succumbing to its effects.
Speaking at the launch of the institution’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, Prof Dickson Adomako emphasised that breast cancer does not discriminate.

"As we gather here today, we must remember that breast cancer doesn't discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life, irrespective of age, gender, or background. Every breast cancer diagnosis represents a unique narrative, an individual, a family, and a community affected by this relentless ailment. While the journey through breast cancer is undeniably challenging, it also serves as a testament to the indomitable strength, resilience, and hope that define the human spirit."
He called upon all to actively engage in this initiative, spreading awareness, extending support to those in need, and contributing to screening efforts.
Adomako underlined that such involvement would not only transform lives but also play a pivotal role in forging a healthier and more compassionate world.
This event is being organized by the Commission as part of the GAEC@60 Anniversary Celebration, showcasing their commitment to addressing this pressing public health issue.
