Management of the Ghana Cotton Company has met leaders of its workforce to plead with them to rescind their decision to embark on a strike.
The workers are demanding payment of salary arrears which have been outstanding since November last year.
Already, the company is facing dire financial difficulties and owes a number of institutions including the Volta River Authority several thousands of Ghana cedis.
The company’s Director of Corporate Communications, Akamboe Ayiripasia, says although the demands of the workers are being worked on, the financial challenges are making things very difficult.
Meanwhile some cotton farmers in the North also declined to sell their produce to the company.
They claim that the monies owed them by the company have still not been paid.
