Ghana and Nigeria are losing out on available opportunities to groom quality leaders for their respective countries. That is according to Professor Vincent Anigbogu of the Institute for National Transformation.
According to Prof. Anigbogu, even though the two nations are best placed in terms of providing quality education for future leaders, they are both not making good use of the opportunities.
He made the observation at a strategic governance lecture dubbed the “Ultimate politician” in Accra.
The two-day lecture organized by the Logos- Rhema foundation for leadership resource development is aimed at producing value-based leaders who will leave no stone unturned in developing their communities and nations.
According to Prof. Anigbogu, many Ghanaians are not aware of the national vision adding that Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah envisioned a country that would serve as the guiding light for African independence and solidarity.
He stated that his research has revealed that African leaders lack pragmatism in their decision making process.
He also observed that they possess poor social skills to mobilize persons from across the ethnic and tribal divide but instead often evoke tribal differences.
An Economist, Dr. Abu Bako in his address, advised politicians to ensure that they bring about change which will harness the development of their respective nations.
Government he noted must also work assiduously to protect the rules and regulations governing their nation and strive to preserve the safety, peace and prosperity of the country. He also urged governments to fight against foreign control or conquest.
