The government spent ¢63 billion on decent work and sustainable economic growth in 2022, Ghana’s 2022 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Budget and Expenditure Report has revealed.
The Ministry of Finance led the voluntary national review of the SDGs in tracking allocations and spending.
In a bid to promote sustainable economic growth and employment for all, the government budgeted ¢63 billion for SDG 8 against an actual expenditure of ¢55 billion.
A breakdown of the report showed that chunk of the ¢63 billion was used to finance the expansion of the Port of Tema and the continuation of works on the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal. Additionally, two Transit Truck Parks at Paga and Elubo were constructed.
Also, about ¢564.6 million was invested in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMES) through the Ghana Enterprises Agency.
The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) also, disbursed a total of ¢2.32 million to 1,247 micro-credit beneficiaries and ¢248,000 to 13 small loans beneficiaries.
An amount of ¢63 million was also allocated to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the Volta, Central, and Eastern regions being the regions with the highest allocations respectively.
The report added that Sustainable Development Goal 8 is the most invested goal among the 17 SDGs.
