Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party has reiterated his ambition to make education in Ghana progressively cheaper whilst improving upon its quality if voted for in the next general elections. Speaking on MultiTV’s Minority Caucus on Monday evening, Nana Addo stated that he will as much as possible insulate parents from the cost of primary education in the country. According to him, Ghana under his watch can have "a lovely educated public within a decade." In addition, he said, the country has the capacity to wire all the Senior High Schools under a comprehensive policy of proliferating Information Communication Technology across the country. This, he said will be in fulfillment of one of the cardinal concerns of many Ghanaians - a concern they eloquently expressed to him on his ‘listening campaign' across the country. He challenged anybody who doubted the possibility of implementing this policy to look back at Ghana’s own history of quality education, which at a time, he said, was second to none in Africa. He said he was a beneficiary of this quality education having attended a government school before proceeding to England to further his education. Whilst in England he was not the least handicapped because his foundation from the government school in Ghana was well grounded and rubbed shoulders with the foreign students there. He expressed regrets that the solid educational system had dissipated with time and vowed to reinvigorate that policy if voted into power. Nana Addo commended ex-president John Kufuor for the district model school policy implemented during his regime; a policy geared towards upgrading, at least, one school in every district in Ghana to international standards. Nana Addo also mentioned the poor quality of road networks across the country as well as the strangling situation of youth unemployment as some of the concerns expressed by Ghanaians. According to him, some of the youth have resorted to playing ludu, oware and cards in their state of despondency. He is convinced the country can surmount these challenges with a focused and more competent leadership.
