Ghana’s Under-21 Netball team, will this year participate in the inaugural Africa Youth Netball Tournament, scheduled for 24th April to 3rd May in Wondhoek, Namibia.
As part of the tournament, a Council or general meeting of the Confederation of Africa Netball Association (CANA) will be held to adopt the new constitution, as well as chart a new path for the sport in Africa.
A statement signed by Rev. Emmanuel D. Nikoi, Chairman of the Netball Association of Ghana (NAG), copied to GNA Sports said CANA will also discuss the programme of CANA for 2009-2011 while the issues militating against the progress of Netball in Africa will strongly come up for discussion and steps will be taken in collaboration with the Headquarters of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA) in Yaounde to move Africa Netball forward.
Rev. Nikoi said the tournament according to the Secretary-General of CANA, Madam Sharifa K. H. Salim, would be a prelude to the World Youth Netball tournament to be held in the Cook Islands, in August this year.
Teams expected to take part in the Africa Youth Netabll tournament include Ghana, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
The others are Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Malawi, Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland and Namibia.
According to the statement, the occasion will also be used by the Confederation of Africa Netball Association (CANA), to adopt a new constitution, as well as chart new path for the sport in Africa.
Rev. Nikoi added that CANA will also use the occasion to draw a new programme for the continent.
