The president’s advisor on health, Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare has said the country's health sector would witness a robust infrastructural development under the next New Patriotic Party government.

He indicated that the Akufo-Addo-led government would construct about 113 ultra-modern health facilities across the country.

Dr Nsiah Asare said government will also complete the digitisation of the health system and expand health training facilities to enhance human resources in the sector.

He emphasised government would focus on health promotion, health prevention, and rehabilitation among others to achieve the universal coverage

Dr Asare said this when he was speaking at the Volta NPP Nurses and Midwives Network Conference 2020 in the Volta Regional capital of Ho.

”We are building 101 district hospitals with emergency centers, with what it takes to be a district hospital, x-ray, and everything is in.

"We are also putting up seven regional hospitals, between 170-200 bed regional hospitals with all the necessary materials and equipment needed including MRI and CT scans.

”We are also putting two psychiatric hospitals, one in the middle belt in Kumasi, and another in Tamale and rehabilitate the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital.

"We are also going to build another 3 infectious diseases centres in collaborating with the private sector,” he said.

He said that government would introduce car finance in the health sector to enable health workers to purchase vehicles and pay through monthly deduction of their salaries.

He illustrated that the government seeks to review and overhaul the healthcare finances to ensure there are sufficient finances to manage and sustain the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Dr. Asare assured that all hospitals would be completed within the next term and harmonize the functions of health facilities regulatory bodies to enable them to have ”one credential under a common regulation institution.”

He enumerated promises contained in the NPP 2016 manifesto which had been delivered.

These included employing graduate nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and doctors, provision of 307 ambulances, expand and equip health institutions to produce more and efficient human resources, restructuring the NHIS, restoration of nurses trainees allowance among others.

He said the Akufo-Addo government had already laid a solid foundation towards improving the country’s healthcare delivery, therefore must be retained to continue its magnificent work in the health sector.

The Volta NPP Nurses and Midwives Network Conference 2020 was put together by the Volta Regional NPP Organizer, Emmanuel Bodja, under the auspices of V20, a pro NPP group.
