The Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced that voting to elect the new National Treasurer will take place in Accra and all the regional capitals on Thursday, July 9, 2009 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Candidates for the position are Mrs Esi Asante, a Freelance Journalist, and Mrs Linda Asante Agyei, a Senior Reporter of the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
A press release issued by the GJA Elections Committee stated that voting in Accra would take place at the GNA, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ghana International Press Centre, TV3, Graphic Communications Group Limited and the New Times Corporation Limited.
It said the candidates could have two agents at every polling centre, while officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) in all the regions would help to conduct the elections.
It said the results would be declared at the polling centres at the close of voting, while collation to declare the winner would be at the GIPC. .
The statement noted that proxy voting would be allowed only upon the production of a duly signed authority note from the member to the Elections Committee identifying the proxy.
It added that at the end of nominations on June 24, 2009 for candidates to file their papers for national positions of the GJA, some candidates were returned unopposed.
They were the president of the association, Mr. Ransford Tetteh; vice-president, Mr. Affail Monney; general secretary, Mr. Bright Blewu; organising secretary, Mr. Dave Agbenu, and public affairs officer, Mr. Mathias Tibu.
