Government has taken delivery of China-made office tables and chairs to fill an ultramodern high court building complex in Accra.

Selected journalists including Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah were taken on a tour of the plush new building and were shown specimens of the new Chinese chairs and tables.

The 42-court room project is being built at a cost of $50 million by the China State Hualong Construction Limited.

It is not clear yet if the furnishing was part of the project agreement but the Project Coordinator J.A Yeboah told journalists the Chinese were able to meet the required specifications for the chairs and tables.

This is not the first time the Chinese are providing furnishings for one of the country's branches of government.

Last year Parliament took delivery of similar furniture for the renovated chamber, a development that sparked a huge controversy.

Critics did not understand why the legislature would import chairs to fill Parliament, at a time when the President is leading the crusade for patronisation of Ghana made products.

However, members justified the decision to import the chairs saying the local furniture producers could not produce at the same level of quality and quantity.
