After being shut down for expansion works, Ghana's largest shipping container storage facility has been re-opened by Hull Blyth Ghana in Tema.
The depot which was re-opened on Friday ,May 16th 2014, was upgraded to meet the growing demands for large capacity storage.
With a two dollar million investment, the facility is the largest dedicated empty container storage depot in Ghana with a total surface area of 35,000sqm.
This would however permit a storage capacity of 5,500 shipping containers to be stored on one site at a time permitting annual storage of 70,000 shipping containers.
The facility was opened by Richard Anamoo, Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), together with the Chairman of Hullblyth Ghana, Mr. Mike Ankuma.
Also in attendance were the Managing Director of Hull Blyth Group ,Mr. James Baldwin and the Managing Director of the group's Ghana subsidiary, Mrs. Caroline Baldwin.
"Hull Blyth is proud to be involved in this significant investment in Ghana's shipping industry. This investment highlights our continued cooperation with GPHA, together providing added value to the shipping lines and their customers which we serve in Ghana," Mrs. Caroline Baldwin.
The container depot has introduced a container bar-coding for more effective tracking of containers since 2013 and will operate 24 hours.
A plaque was unveiled by Mr. Mike Ankuma,who stressed on ongoing investments by the Ports Authority in key areas like infrastructure, accessible roads and the revamping of the railway system in the country as all these are requirements for international trade.
He also made it clear that, Tema would be the forerunner of deep water port among its contemporaries within the West African region for all stakeholders.
Adding to what was previously said, Mrs. Caroline Baldwin, Managing Director of Hull Blyth Ghana, spoke on how the company prides itself with the investments that they have made in Ghana's shipping industry.
