Students of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) last night abandoned lectures to protest what they describe as bad policies introduced by the administration.Among their demands is the immediate reopening of a gate at the school which opens to an access road to the N-1 Highway but which authorities have closed and imposed a GHS50 annual sticker charge for students who use private vehicles before they are granted access.The students marched on campus demanding the immediate reopening of the gate on the grounds that the stretch of road from Dzorwulu Junction to GIMPA formed part of the N-1 Highway project which was financed by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) and not GIMPA.The students are also demanding the reversal of a decision by the academic board to make students who trail a paper to re-take the course at a cost of GHS300. Previously students who failed any paper were made to re-sit at a later date for less than GHS100.The students vowed not to compromise on any of their demands. They greeted the Rector Prof. Yaw Agyeman Badu who went to address them with shouts, asking him to open the gate.Some of the angry students marched to the back gate and forcibly open parts of the gate while the security looked on helplessly.This development got the authorities angry including the Head of Administration of the school Dr. Josiah Cobbah, who openly warned the students to end the protest or he would be compelled to close down the school within the next three days.
