Veteran actor Oscar Provencal has called on the government to give funding to content providers who do short skits and series.
According to the Inspector Bediako actor, all those who specialise in short skits for social media as well as those who do series are all contributing to the local movie industry as all these are part of the movie industry.
Oscar Provencal was speaking on TV3’s New Day moderated by Berla Mundi which also has Abraham Ohene-Djan and movie producer Peter Sedufia as panellists.
Oscar Provencal also advised Ghanaians not to compare Ghana’s movie industry to Nigeria’s as the two are miles apart, ‘’Look at Nigeria’s population and the number of movies they produce in a year and compare it to ours here.
‘’There is no point comparing the two industries because they are worlds apart and one has far more advanced than the other so kindly stop the comparisons,’’ he stated.
Oscar Provencal’s call comes on the wake of the decline of the Ghanaian movie industry and at a time where some local movie producers especially the ones from Kumawood have resorted to producing short skits for YouTube and television series.
Oscar Provencal has been around for over three decades and has graced our screens with his brilliant acting. He is especially known for his role as Inspector Bediako in the television detective series titled Inspector Bediako.
