Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has insisted that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia deserves credit for the Gold-for-Reserve policy now being implemented by the Mahama administration.
While responding to the President's address on Friday, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that some economic gains had been made, particularly through the policy.
However, he was quick to attribute the intellectual property of the initiative to his predecessor.
"The president is telling us today that some gains have been made... through this Gold-For-Reserve policy," Afenyo-Markin noted.

He then pivoted to what he saw as a critical omission in the narrative surrounding the policy's origins. "Mr. Speaker, the Gold-For-Reserve policy what they have failed to tell Ghanaians is that the Bawumia that they attacked is the brainchild of this policy."
Drawing on a local proverb to drive home his point, the Minority Leader urged the government to acknowledge the contributions of political opponents when they are valid.
"Mr. Speaker, I would want to urge the government give to Bawumia what belongs to Bawumia."
