-PZ Cussons Ghana on Monday joined residents of Madina a populous suburb of the  La  Nkwantanan Madina Municipality of  Greater  Accra Region to celebrate this year’s Global Hand Washing day.

The event was held at the Madina branch of the Laspamas Restaurant and was under the Theme:  Handwashing  a Recipe for Health.

The company mounted handwashing taps that were used to educate the public, including school children, on proper handwashing.

Assorted products of PZ Cussons like sanitizers and other personal care products were shared free of charge.

Contestants of the 2018  Ghana Most Beautiful were invited to serve as  Ambassadors to educate people on the importance of keeping clean hands to prevent them against germ-related infections.

Global Handwashing Day is a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases.

Dr Emelia Ababioh, who took the participants through some practical demonstration on handwashing, advised Ghanaians to take handwashing serious.

She said eating with dirty hands contribute to diarrhoea and other diseases.

She observed that Ghanaians do not pay proper attention to handwashing, therefore, needed to change that habit.

Dr Ababioh also said sometimes people rush to wash their hands wrongly, rendering the activity worthless.

She noted that people should rather wash their hands properly with soap before eating, adding that Ghanaians prefer washing their hands after eating which she says is wrong.

The Global Handwashing Day is set aside to increase awareness on hygiene, especially how people can handle food with clean hands.

In an interview PZ Cussons' Manager for Personal Care, Marian Boateng, she said the company has been at the forefront of a vigorous campaign to educate people on handwashing and general hygiene.

She said the company's past activities on handwashing is the reason it took part in this year's global celebration.

Marian Boateng said in absence of water people can still keep their hands clean by using the PZ Cusson’s hand sanitizers and gels which, according to her, are specially designed to use to clean hands.

She said the products are specially manufactured to make it unharmful when ingested.
