The Techiman municipal secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr. James Edjei Biney, has urged the government to motivate teachers adequately to enable them to redouble their efforts.
Mr. Biney was addressing teachers separately at Offuman, Nsuta, Aworowa, Tanoso, Tuobodom and Bouyem as part of his maiden visit to the nine local GNAT centres in the municipality.
He said: "Since the new educational reforms programme pose challenges and teachers are the pivot of the programme, there is the need for them to be provided with the necessary incentives to boost their morale."
Mr. Biney however advised the teachers to live above reproach and steer away from alcoholism since they were role models in their communities.
He called on circuit supervisors to intensify their supervisory roles and to support the teachers to help improve the academic performance of students and pupils.
He advised teachers to take advantage of the teachers' fund and to increase their savings to enhance their livelihood.
