The government has lifted the curfew imposed on Binduri Township and the surrounding communities in the Upper East Region.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 6, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, said the decision takes immediate effect.
The statement explained that the move followed advice from the Upper East Regional Security Council and was carried out through an Executive Instrument. It said the curfew was lifted “following peace and security in the area”.
The curfew had earlier been imposed as part of efforts to manage tensions and maintain law and order in the Binduri area.
Despite the improvement in the security situation, the government has urged residents to remain calm and responsible.
“Government continues to urge Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them,” the statement said.
It also called on the public “to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area”.
