Government has called for more collaboration from chiefs and residents of the Volta Region as the nation clamps down on the separatists group seeking secession from Ghana.
Following the burning of some buses at the STC terminal in Ho on Tuesday and an attack at the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the North Tongu District on Friday, the Asogli State announced its preparedness to deploy warriors to protect its territory.
However, in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said deploying an outright force may not be the right way to go since efforts are underway to contain the violent acts of these groups.
“There are deployment there but even if we add a million men, and the collaboration is not set up, you will miss one or two things. So it is not all about deploying warlords and warriors,” he said.
According to Mr Oppong Nkrumah, the best option will be for the Asogli State to collaborate with the National House of Chiefs and come to a resolution on how they can help the national security to handle the issue.
“What is most critical now is for all well-meaning Ghanaians rally behind the Flag and supporting the State and its security agencies to deliver on their mandate in these areas and to build the kind of collaboration that is required to find a lasting solution,” he said.
Meanwhile, some residents of Ho say they’re living in fear following the random attacks by the Volta secessionists.
And called on their fellow countrymen to resort to the authorize and peaceful means to make their allegations known.
