The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has announced the commencement of vetting for applicants under the “Historic Diaspora Community” citizenship programme.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 10, the Ministry said applicants would be invited in batches for vetting at the Dubois Centre in Cantonments, Accra, beginning February 11.
According to the statement, “Applicants for the Historic Diaspora Community will be scheduled in batches for vetting at the Dubois Centre, Cantonments in Accra, starting February 11.”
Officials have cautioned applicants against visiting the centre without prior notification. The Ministry urged applicants to “wait for notification on their vetting schedule from the Ministry before visiting the centre to avoid overcrowding.”
The announcement comes amid growing interest in the programme. The Ministry acknowledged that the high volume of applications may affect participation in the upcoming swearing-in ceremony.
It noted that “due to the overwhelming number of applicants and the limited time frame for the ceremonial swearing-in scheduled for March 5, not all interested persons will be able to participate in the process.”
Despite this, the government has assured applicants that the citizenship process remains ongoing. The Ministry, working with the Diaspora Affairs Office, said the online registration portal remains open and that no eligible applicant will be excluded.
“The citizenship process remains open via https://e-services.mint.gov.gh for registration, and no one will be disadvantaged,” the statement said.
The government also reaffirmed its broader commitment to engaging the diaspora. It stated that it is “committed to granting Ghanaian citizenship to all qualified applicants as part of its diaspora affairs initiative.”
Applicants who require further information or clarification have been advised to contact the Ministry through its official channels.
Enquiries can be sent by email to e-services@mint.gov.gh. The Migration Unit and the Public Affairs and Communications Unit can also be reached on 0303 956 713.
