Government, through the Ministry of Education, has delivered assorted food items to some second-cycle institutions in the Ashanti region ahead of school reopening. 

The food items to be distributed to at least four schools is to restock storerooms of beneficiary schools to feed students under the flagship Free Senior High School programme.

Bags of flour, gallons of cooking oil, margarine, amongst others, were delivered to authorities of T.I Ahmadiyya Senior High, Opoku Ware School, and Osei Kyeretwie SHS ahead of school re-opening.

Deputy Minister of Education, Reverend Ntim Fordjour, presented to beneficiary schools on behalf of the sector minister.

According to him, many other schools in the Central, Northern and Ashanti regions have received their deliveries.

“It is expected that school reopening this week will receive the required stock of food to be able to feed our students in line with the president’s free SHS policy.

“The ministry is also ensuring that all heads of schools receive all that they need to be able to run the 30% perishables they need over the period,” he said.  

According to Rev Fordjuor, the consignment is sufficient to meet beneficiary schools' feeding needs over the period.

“These items are sufficient from 5^th to 28^th January, where students are going to be in school to conclude the academic year for double-track students.

“The ministry interacted with heads of schools, free SHS coordinators also worked together with Buffer Stock, to take stocks of foods they currently have in their storerooms for every food item, and also took account of what was required to shore up, to be able to feed the students for the period sufficiently,” he said.

Assistant Headmaster, Administration at T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS, Ahmed Kweku Boampong, who spoke on behalf of beneficiary institutions, is happy over the gesture.

“Recently, the conference of heads of assisted secondary schools (CHASS) met with the ministry of education where the ministry promised to supply food items to schools. I am glad they have fulfilled their promise,” he said.
