Government has cancelled plans to airlift the last batch of football fans to Brazil to cheer the Black Stars in the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament, reports Asempa Sports.
The more than one hundred fans stranded at the Kotoka International Airport for the past couple of days, will have to go back home and watch the games on television.
About 500 fans who were successfully airlifted to Brazil are also said to be stranded and without accommodation after arriving in that country.
A member of the World Cup Committee, Bright Adu Asare on Tuesday, told Asempa Sports that the cancellation of the sponsored trip was due to accommodation challenges government is facing in Brazil.
“Yes we’ve cancelled the arrangements just because we had prepared for 500 supporters in terms of accommodation in Brazil and we don’t want to encounter any accommodation challenges as it has been widely reported in the media,” the former Adeta MP said.
He however said, alternative arrangements are being made and if successful, the fans would be airlifted to Brazil to cheer the national team in the second group 'G' game against Germany, Saturday, June 21.
“We are putting things together to see if we can settle for another accommodation before thinking of flying another supporters to Brazil”.
Ghana on Monday night lost the opener by 1:2 to USA while Germany walked over Portugal with a 4:0 victory earlier in the day. Ghana's last group game will be against Portugal on Thursday, June 26.
