Almost six months after pledging to support a couple in Takoradi for giving birth to quintuplet in a hospital in Tema, government is yet to redeem that promise.
The couple Alex Obeng Sakyi and Esther Obeng Sakyi gave birth to 3 girls and two boys at the Provita Hospital.
Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare Antwi Boasiako Sekyere pledged government support to the couple and subsequently directed the Department of Social Welfare to visit the family and submit a report for the necessary assistance.
But the family is yet to receive anything after officials from the Social Welfare Department paid a visit to the family.
The quintuplets were formally named today at a ceremony in Takoradi in the Western Region.
Asempa News’ correspondent Obeng Yeboah reported that, Tobinco Pharmacy presented GHC 1,000 to the quintuplets and pledged to provide GHC 200 monthly for their upkeep.
Mr. Alex Obeng Sakyi mentioned the names of the babies as Abena Akuoku Sakyi, Nana Oduro Sakyi, Abena Afrakoma Sakyi, Maame Sakyiwaa Sakyi and Papa Kweku Sakyi
He pleaded for assistance from corporate bodies and philanthropists.
Meanwhile, sources close to the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare has disclosed to Asempa News that, the Social Welfare Department has submitted its report to the Ministry.
The source hinted that funds are being mobilized and it is likely a presentation will be made to the couple next week.
