A Research Officer at the Centre for Democratic Development, (CDD-Ghana), Mr Kojo Pumpuni Asante has said there are enough files and documents to support the prosecution of the controversial judgment debt paid to Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome if government wishes to do so.
Mr. Asante said he was baffled at suggestions that some vital documents including one about the Waterville contract were taken away by former officials under the Kufuor regime.
“There are exchanges of documents and information between government, Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) among others; so you can continue with the case and determine whether or not someone did wrong or right in the woyomegate”, he told host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah.
Deputy Minister of Information Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who made an intervention in the discussion indicated that, there are hundreds of missing files which do not only contain issues about the infamous judgment debt paid to Alfred Woyome but several other cases.
He therefore chided former government officials especially Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei and Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani who have been denying the allegation that the ex-government officials carted away files. Though former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani had earlier denied taking any files home on Joy FM, Mr. Ablakwa maintained that “some documents were addressed to particular political figures and copies were never made to any Ministry, Department or Agency for the government to trace them”, hence “no one can deny that documents were taken away or missing”.
According to the deputy Information Minister, some issues were either not documented or recorded in the Registry.
However Mr. Kojo Asante argued that, if there are files that concern Waterville or whatever situation, the government should be ready to name the missing files and what they contain so that tension is not just created for Ghanaians to also just talk about it.
