The Greater Accra Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Ampong has explained that he withdrew his allegations of death threat against two party members from the police in the interest of the party.
Mr. Ampong asked the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to discontinue investigations into the matter which came up after he openly criticized some party leaders for lobbying for Nana Akufo-Addo’s candidature for election 2016.
The two party members accused of threatening his life were subsequently granted bail.
Mr. Ampong explained to Joy News he expects the party to address his concerns beyond the death threats.
The concerns, he said, were not only about the death threats but "they were concerns I raised about attempts to denigrate me and to discredit me in the eyes of party people."
He hopes the party will sit up and ensure that they get to the bottom of the matter and get his "name cleared publicly so that my reputation will be maintained," but if he feels dissatisfied he "still reserves the right to go back to the police but it is a criminal matter."
The Greater Accra Regional Communication Director of the NPP denied rumours that he has been bribed to ask the police to discontinue investigations into the matter.
