The Ghana Revenue Authority is warning it will clamp down on big and small businesses that do not honour their tax obligations.
The GRA took its threat to Tesano in Accra where some businesses were shut down and others cautioned for defaulting in their tax obligations.
To ensure that businesses meet their tax obligations, the Authority has inaugurated a Special Revenue Mobilisation task force, which has since August 03 recovered more than 107 million Ghana cedis worth of tax returns 2407 tax payers in places they have visited.
At the Caza Maza Restaurant, the restaurant was given up to Monday, 7th December to produce sales records after being detected that the Retail Dispensation scheme of the business had expired.
At the Golden Spoon Hotel, management asked to produce their requisite tax information or face a total close-down latest by Monday morning. The reception and restaurant areas of the hotel were subsequently sealed off.
At the Shakes and Bakes eatery, it was found that the business which started operation recently was not registered on Value Added Tax (VAT) at all.
It was a chaotic scene at the Rhythms Bar and Restaurant as a customer was arrested for trying to stop the Police from closing down the bar. The GRA observed gross irregularities between tax returns filed in the company’s Books and those filed in VAT invoice books.
The Special Revenue Mobilisation task force has so far identified 200 new tax payers.
