Apam Senior High School have begun yet another sensational start in a bid for National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) glory.
The Central region-based school put up an impressive performance to accumulate 38 points in the region’s first qualifiers, defeating closest competitor, Aburaman SHS by 15 points.
Mozano SHS followed closely with 22 points and Enyan Denkyira Senior High and Technical School also scored 17 points. Trailing the pack was Assin North SHS who scored 13 points.
With this victory, Apam SHS have secured a spot at the preliminary stages of the national championship yet again after some impressive performances over the years.
In 2019, they scored 62 points in the prelims which was one of the highest tallies in the entire competition. They were, however, paired with 2018 champions, St. Peters Boys’ SHS at the one-eighth stage and were knocked out.
It is a new year and Great Apass as they are known would be hoping for better prospects in the Primetime show.
Second to qualify in the day was Ghana National College which was also knocked out in a shocking turn of events by St John’s Grammar SHS in a contest that also featured Volta region top-dogs Bishop Herman College.
Both favourites in that one-eighth stage contest failed to pull their weight and St John’s Grammar snatched a win.
But in Thursday’s contest, Ghana National College dominated the entire contest from start to finish. They have booked their place in the prelims this May at the University of Ghana in Accra.
The final scores for their contest was: Ghana National College: 55pts, Assin Manso SHS: 29pts, Kwegyir Aggrey SHS: 21pts, Brakwa SHTS: 14pts and Fankobaa: 12pts.
