Francis Nkoranza, an employee of the Ghana Water Company Limited {GWCL} has been arrested by the police at Bawku for allegedly stealing equipment belonging to the company.
Nkoranza was alleged to have stolen a meter-board worth over 20,000 dollars that generates water underground and pumps it into the main taps for supply to household consumers.
This has resulted in shortage of water supply to the Bawku Township and its environs.
Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP I C Akligbe, Bawku Divisional Crime Officer, who confirmed the incident, said authorities of the GWCL reported to the police about the persistent loss of some of its equipment in February this year.
He said the police mounted intensive investigations, but it proved futile since all the employees of the GWCL were aware of the case being handled by the police.
ASP Akligbe said on Saturday a major meter board at Missiga Station 5 was stolen while that of Station 3 was completely destroyed when the suspect attempted to remove it.
He said an informant gave a tip-off, which led to the suspect's arrest, but he had denied ever stealing the equipment.
