The Criminal Division of the Accra High Court has rescheduled the trial of former Chief Executive Officer of the National Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, after proceedings were disrupted by the lengthy judgment delivered in the case involving New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The court was unable to proceed with the Hanan Abdul-Wahab matter as scheduled after spending extended hours delivering the judgment in the separate case involving Chairman Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining Company Limited.

Hanan Abdul-Wahab and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, are facing trial over allegations that they orchestrated a scheme to divert public funds meant for the National Buffer Stock Company and the School Feeding Programme for their personal benefit.

The prosecution has accused the couple of engaging in activities that allegedly caused financial loss to the state through the handling of funds connected to the two public programmes.

The accused persons have denied the allegations and are before the court to answer charges brought against them.

The rescheduled hearing date is expected to allow the court to continue with the substantive trial, which forms part of ongoing efforts by state prosecutors to pursue alleged financial crimes involving public resources.

The case is being closely monitored due to the former CEO’s role in managing a key government agency responsible for supporting food supply initiatives, including the National Buffer Stock Programme.
